Monkseaton Morrismen And Folk Dance Team

Introducing a new feature - You can follow Monkseaton Morris Men and Folk Dance Team on Facebook
And on Twitter @7manrapper

For 2012 we will be trying to dance out in the area a bit more than previous years. As well as a number of fairs and fetes that we will be dancing at there are three dates when you will be able to see us dancing. The dates are all Thursday evenings stating at 8:00 and running through till we get tired.

In addition to this we will be running our Weekend of Dance again this year over the weekend of the 14th - 16th September. We will be based at Appletree Gardens School with dance performances outside the Ship Inn on Saturday night and outside the Monkseaton Arms on Sunday lunch time.

We have had a great response from teams and there will a 7 teams performing different dance traditions. The teams are:

Redcar Sword - Cleveland
Saddleworth - Yorkshire
Yateley - Hampshire
Greensleeves - down south
Utrecht - Holland
Moulton - North Hampton
Westminster - London

We are always keen for new members to join and take an active role in the dancing so if you are at all interested in learning more about the team, the dances we perform, or would like to join the team, please come along to one of the events listed on the 2012 programme or pop along to one of our practice nights (every Monday) or contact us through the telephone numbers and emails listed at the bottom of this page. Bring a friend along and give it a go, there's nothing to lose. The dancing is fun, good exercise and you will be afforded a warm welcome where ever you go.

Monkseaton were formed in 1955 and the team are the leading exponents of the traditional sword and country dances of Northumbria with an international reputation amongst folk dance circles throughout Europe.

Meeting on Monday evenings, at the 21st Whitley Bay Scout Hut (beside the Whitley Bay Ice-Rink Hillheads Road) from 8pm–10pm, the team perfect their dances and organise performances for fund raising events, fetes, social gatherings and festivals both here and abroad.
